Booking your first psychic medium reading can feel exciting, emotional, and a little bit nerve-wracking all at once. You might be wondering what to expect, how to get ready, or whether you’re “doing it right.”
In this post, I’ll walk you through how to prepare—practically, emotionally, and energetically—so you can feel calmer, more grounded, and truly open to the experience.
What a Psychic Medium (and Channel) Reading With Me Is (and Is Not)
Before we talk about preparation, it helps to be clear about what actually happens in a reading.
I work in three main ways:
· Psychic: I read your energy and the patterns around you—your emotions, beliefs, and the possibilities available to you.
· Medium: I connect with loved ones and other spirits on the other side who wish to come through with messages of love, healing, and support.
· Channel: I connect with high guides and other benevolent beings who are here to assist humanity. Through this channelling, you can receive clear, direct guidance and answers to any questions you may have about your life, your path, or your spiritual growth.
A reading with me is:
· A safe, respectful space for you to receive guidance and connection.
· Focused on healing, clarity, and empowerment—not fear.
· A conversation, not a performance. You’re allowed to feel, to ask questions, and to be human.
A reading with me is not:
· A way to control or guarantee specific outcomes.
· A list of fixed predictions you’re powerless to change.
· A replacement for medical, legal, or psychological care.
I see my role as a bridge: I bring through information and connection—from your own energy, from loved ones in spirit, and from high guides—and you decide how to integrate it into your life.
How Channelling High Guides Can Support Your Reading
Clients are often surprised by how practical and loving the guidance from high guides can be.
During a session, you may:
· Ask specific questions about your life, relationships, work, health, or spiritual path.
· Receive insights that help you see the bigger picture of what you’re experiencing.
· Be offered gentle course corrections or suggestions that honour your free will.
These beings are here to assist humanity, not to judge or control you. Their messages are always oriented toward your highest good, your growth, and your healing.
You don’t need to know which guide or being you want to speak with. Part of my job as a channel is to open the space and allow the most appropriate guidance to come through for you in that moment.
Emotional Preparation: It’s Okay to Feel Nervous
Many first-time clients tell me they feel nervous before their session. That’s completely natural, especially if you’re grieving or if this is your first experience with a psychic medium or channel.
Here are a few ways to prepare emotionally:
· Acknowledge your feelings. It’s okay to be excited, skeptical, hopeful, or afraid of being disappointed. You don’t have to hide that from me; I’ve worked with thousands of people who felt exactly the same way.
· Set a gentle intention. Instead of trying to control who comes through or what is said, you might simply say to yourself, “I’m open to receiving whatever is for my highest good today.”
· Release the idea of a “test.” You don’t need to come in trying to “trick” me or prove anything. The more relaxed and open you are, the easier it is for the energy to flow.
If you’re in very acute grief (for example, a loss that is extremely recent), you may want to check in with yourself: are you ready to hear from your loved one, or do you need a little more time? There is no right or wrong answer—only what feels kindest to your heart.
Practical Preparation: Setting Yourself Up for a Smooth Session
A few simple practical steps can make a big difference, especially for online readings.
1. Choose a quiet, private space
Whether we’re meeting in person or online, try to be somewhere you won’t be interrupted. This is your time. Turn off notifications, let family members know you’ll be unavailable, and give yourself permission to be fully present.
2. Give yourself a few minutes before and after
If possible, avoid rushing in from work or errands. Arrive a few minutes early, take some deep breaths, and allow your energy to settle. After the session, give yourself a bit of time to process before jumping back into your day.
3. Consider having tissues and water nearby
Readings can be emotional, especially when we’re connecting with loved ones in spirit or receiving deep guidance from high guides. Having a glass of water and some tissues within reach is a simple act of self-care.
4. Decide whether you’d like to take notes
Some clients like to jot down key messages or names. Others prefer to simply be present and reflect later. There is no requirement either way, but if you know you’ll want notes, have a notebook or your phone handy. Online sessions via zoom are recorded to download following your distance session and you are welcome to record your in person session with me.
What (and What Not) to Share Before Your Reading
People often ask, “Should I tell you anything before we start?” The answer is: you don’t have to. I always recommend making a list of questions you would clarity around in your life and those in spirit you would like to connect with.
You’re welcome to share:
· The type of session you’ve booked (for example, a mediumship-focused reading or a session where you know you’ll have many questions for the guides).
· Any practical concerns (for example, “I might need to step away to check on my child”).
· A general area of life you’d like insight on (relationships, career, healing, spiritual growth, etc.), if you feel called. The more specific the question, the better the guides can answer it for you.
You do not need to:
· Give me detailed information about your loved ones.
· Explain your entire life story.
· Tell me exactly what you want me to “prove.”
Part of my job is to bring through specific details and validations so you know the connection is real—whether that’s through your loved ones in spirit or through the guidance that comes via channelling. Allowing that process to unfold naturally tends to create the strongest evidence and the most meaningful experience.
How I Prepare for Your Reading (Behind the Scenes)
Before I meet with you, I spend time in meditation to ground, clear my energy, and invite in only those spirits and messages that are for your highest good. I also set clear boundaries and intentions so that the space is safe, loving, and respectful for everyone involved—on both sides of the veil.
This includes:
· Inviting in your loved ones and any guides who wish to assist.
· Intentionally connecting with high guides and benevolent beings who are here to support humanity and your personal path.
· Setting clear energetic boundaries so that only what serves your highest good is allowed into the session.
You don’t have to do anything special to “help” me connect. Your willingness to show up and be present is enough.
During the Reading: What You Can Expect
While every session is unique, there are some common elements you can expect:
· A brief explanation of how I work. I’ll outline what I do as a psychic, medium, and channel, how I receive information, and how you can participate.
· Evidence and validation. When a loved one in spirit comes through, I’ll share details such as personality traits, memories, or circumstances of their passing to help you recognize them. When high guides step forward, the validation often comes through the accuracy, depth, and timing of the guidance you receive.
· Space for your questions. You’re welcome to ask questions during the reading—either for your loved ones in spirit or for the guides I channel. Sometimes spirit will answer directly; other times, the guidance comes through in more subtle ways.
· Gentle honesty. I won’t tell you what I think you want to hear; I’ll share what comes through with compassion and respect.
If something doesn’t make sense right away, that’s okay. Sometimes pieces click into place later, or a family member confirms a detail after your session.
After Your Reading: Integrating the Experience
The time after a reading is just as important as the session itself.
Here are a few suggestions:
· Give yourself space to feel. You may feel lighter, emotional, peaceful, or even a bit tired. All of these responses are normal.
· Reflect on the messages. Notice what resonated most deeply—whether it was a specific memory from a loved one or a piece of guidance from your high guides. What themes or suggestions stood out?
· Stay grounded. A short walk, a warm drink, or time in nature can help you come back into your body and your day.
· Be gentle with yourself. Healing and connection can stir up old emotions. Allow them to move through you without judgment.
If you feel called to continue your healing or spiritual growth—through Reiki, hypnosis, spiritual coaching, or further sessions with your guides—we can talk about what might be the best next step for you.
